Standard Market is a celebration of food. Our mission is to make or find the best tasting products to share with people who love to eat and drink. Under the Standard Market umbrella, we currently have two specialty food markets (Standard Market in Westmont and Naperville) and multiple restaurant concepts, both in-market and standalone (including Standard Market Grill, Bakersfield Wood Fired Grill, Standard Tacos & Margaritas, and The CUBE at Standard Market), all located in the western suburbs of Chicago.


We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Visual Communication Designer. As an integral part of a tight-knit corporate marketing team, your responsibilities will include—but not be limited to—the creation of advertising and promotional materials and management and execution of projects with templated and new designs, formats, and guidelines to help Standard Market grow as a brand. This is a fast-paced position where you will gain a variety of experience and while there are routine tasks, you will also have a lot of freedom to develop the visual experience for new products, events, brands, etc. on a regular basis.

Responsibilities and sample projects include:

  • Creation of digital assets for use in emails, web, social media, etc.
  • Layout and design of weekly in-store sales flyer
  • Layout and design of in-store promotional flyers, posters, handouts, menus, and other related collateral, consistent with brand identity guidelines
  • Food styling, tabletop photography, and video
  • Photo selection, manipulation, cropping, color correction, and other basic photo editing tasks
  • Branding work for products, events, etc.
  • Design of packaging and store displays
  • Managing projects and relationships both internally (e.g., with store departments, chefs, et al. to get content, schedule photos, etc.) and with external vendors (e.g., printers, fabricators, et al. to meet production deadlines)
  • Marketing-related tasks, depending on the individual (opportunities for copywriting, ideation, research, planning, execution)


  • Intermediate to high proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud programs, with an emphasis on InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Premiere and After Effects a plus
  • 2–5 years of agency (or relevant) design, art direction, and/or production experience
  • Relevant bachelor's degree in visual communication design, graphic design, or related fields
  • Talent for layout, composition, color theory, and typography
  • Experience with photo editing, digital (social media, web, email), basic video editing, 3D (retail/environmental displays)
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong organizational/project management skills and attention to detail
  • Minimalist/modern design aesthetic
  • Self-starter, can work quickly in a high volume, fast paced environment managing multiple streams of work with grace
  • Time management is key
  • Must love food and have interest in food & beverage design (packaging, restaurants, hospitality, etc.)
